Job Description

The role of Coordinator of The Lion Food Pantry at East Texas A&M University is a critical staff position within the Student Advocacy & Support department. This position provides essential day-to-day operational leadership for the campus food pantry, which serves as a vital resource addressing food insecurity among students. The Coordinator acts as the central hub for office operations within the department, ensuring efficient pantry operations, accurate inventory management, and adherence to food safety and donor requirements. Additionally, the role includes managing scheduling, training, and supervision of student staff and volunteers, facilitating donation drives, and maintaining contracts with partner organizations like the North Texas Food Bank.

In this capacity, the Coordinator also plays a vital role in fostering community partnerships that expand services addressing students’ basic needs, including food and housing insecurity. The individual is expected to assist with compliance and documentation related to grants, contracts, and partnerships connected to pantry operations, as well as contribute to assessment, program improvement, and strategic planning efforts within Student Advocacy & Support. Engagement with donors and enhancing donor relations is another important component of this position. Furthermore, the Coordinator is responsible for maintaining welcoming and organized office operations, covering front-desk duties, managing student traffic flow, and responding to general inquiries to create a responsive student support environment.

This role requires a flexible individual able to handle multitasking duties effectively, including working some evenings and weekends. The position demands physical activity such as extended periods of standing and walking and the ability to lift up to and occasionally over 50 pounds. The position offers a competitive minimum monthly salary of $3,696.09 and is based on the Commerce, Texas campus. Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or related area or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • One to three years of experience in office operations, program coordination, food pantry operations, or related administrative roles
  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to form and maintain effective relationships with students
  • Ability to lift and carry over 10 lbs., occasional lifting/carrying over 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • Willingness to work some evenings and weekends

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or related area or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • One to three years of experience in office operations, program coordination, food pantry operations, or related administrative roles
  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
  • Ability to form and maintain effective relationships with students
  • Experience supervising student workers and volunteers preferred
  • Master's degree in Education, Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or related clinical area preferred

Job Duties

  • Assist with management of day-to-day operations of the Office for Student Advocacy and Support including scheduling and managing student staff
  • Submit weekly food orders and coordinate donation drives
  • Maintain contract with the North Texas Food Bank and other partnerships
  • Serve as primary point of contact for office operations including front-desk coverage, student traffic flow, and general inquiries
  • Develop and maintain community partnerships to address students' basic needs focusing on food and housing insecurity
  • Assist with compliance and documentation related to grants, contracts, and partnerships for pantry operations
  • Participate in assessment, program improvement, and strategic planning for Student Advocacy and Support
  • Engage with donors and improve donor relations
  • Develop news releases, newsletters, and marketing for Student Advocacy and Support
  • Attend departmental and university meetings and collaborate with other offices and agencies
  • Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise student employees and volunteers assigned to pantry and office operations
  • Develop training materials and operational guides for student staff
  • Provide supervision to Graduate Assistants, Student Workers, and Volunteers
