Job Description
Scarborough Health Network (SHN) Foundation is a vital philanthropic arm of the Scarborough Health Network, a leading community teaching health network located in one of the most diverse regions of Canada. It consists of three hospitals and eight satellite sites serving the vibrant community of Scarborough. The Foundation plays an essential role in raising funds to support state-of-the-art medical technology and infrastructure, directly contributing to improved patient care and health outcomes. SHN Foundation works diligently with generous donors, volunteers, and community members to create impactful campaigns that drive awareness and funding for crucial healthcare initiatives. Their flagship campaign, Love, Scarborough, has been particularly successful in bringing widespread attention to healthcare inequities while inspiring transformational gifts and fostering strong community engagement. This campaign has significantly elevated the profile of the hospitals and highlighted the pressing healthcare gaps in Scarborough, making the foundation’s work a cornerstone for change and progress in the region. The Foundation is currently experiencing unprecedented growth, expanding its team, increasing donations, amplifying media coverage, and strengthening community partnerships.
The role available is for a Coordinator, Marketing & Communications (Philanthropy and Marketing Writer) within the SHN Foundation's Marketing & Communications (MarCom) team. This permanent, full-time position invites enthusiastic and proactive writers passionate about storytelling to contribute to the Foundation’s outreach and fundraising efforts. The Coordinator will work closely with the Senior Philanthropy Writer and the broader MarCom team to meet diverse writing needs that span donor proposals, stewardship reports, compelling content for digital and print campaigns, newsletters, social media, and events. This position offers an extraordinary opportunity to be part of an award-winning team that has successfully transformed healthcare fundraising through forward-thinking communications and community engagement.
As a vital contributor to the Love, Scarborough campaign, the Coordinator will support storytelling efforts that humanize healthcare experiences and highlight the importance of philanthropy in bridging healthcare gaps. The role requires translating complex medical information into clear, culturally sensitive, and inspiring messages tailored for various audiences. Additionally, the Coordinator will participate in the creation of content that maintains the Foundation's brand consistency and enhances its public relations and visibility efforts. This involves pitching stories, coordinating media interviews, drafting speaking remarks for Foundation events, and collaborating with diverse internal teams, including Philanthropy, Stewardship, and Community Development.
The successful candidate will work in a fast-paced environment that demands strong adaptability, initiative, and exceptional attention to detail. They will be instrumental in maintaining and enhancing resources like templates and messaging documents for ongoing projects. Importantly, this role offers a unique mentorship opportunity from experienced professionals within the Foundation to support career growth in philanthropy and communications. Scarborough Health Network Foundation is committed to fostering inclusion and diversity, reflecting the community it serves, and provides accessibility accommodations in the recruitment process. The hourly wage for this role is $29.372. Candidates joining the team are assured a collaborative and supportive environment where their work makes a significant and meaningful impact on healthcare in Scarborough, making this an exciting and rewarding career path for motivated marketing and communications professionals enthusiastic about philanthropic storytelling.
