The role of Cook's Helper within Brown University's Dining Services is a full-time, regular employee position that requires a dedicated individual to support daily food preparation and service under direct supervision. This position is crucial in assisting kitchen staff to meet food safety and quality standards through efficient preparation, cooking support, and maintenance of kitchen cleanliness. The Cook's Helper works collaboratively with cooks and other kitchen personnel in preparing standardized recipes and catering menus, ensuring compliance with established food handling procedures. This role demands physical stamina to handle repetitive motions, standing for extended periods, and occasional lifting of products weighing up to 50 pounds. The position offers a 40-hour work week over 41 weeks per year, with 11 consecutive weeks off in the summer, offering seasonal balance. Employment is contingent on a satisfactory background check and is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Job Requirements
- high school diploma or equivalent
- one year of relevant food service experience
- ability to stand for extended periods and perform physical tasks
- ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- ability to follow safety and sanitation guidelines
- ability to use personal protective equipment including cut resistant gloves
- physical ability to work in varying temperature environments
- good vision including depth perception and color vision

Job Duties
- assist cooks in preparation and service of cafeteria and catered menus
- formulate simple standardized recipes with supervision
- observe maximum safety precautions especially around equipment and hot surfaces
- clean, sanitize, and maintain kitchen equipment and work areas
- perform basic equipment maintenance and report malfunctions
- practice proper food handling techniques to prevent foodborne illness
- comply with department and university policies and regulations
- improve culinary skills and cooperate with peers
- maintain a neat and professional appearance
- perform other tasks as requested
