Job Description

St Vincent de Paul, Louisville (SVDP) is one of the longest-serving social charities in Louisville, dedicated to providing comprehensive support services to vulnerable populations including homeless individuals and families, those affected by chemical dependency, and others in crisis. Through a variety of initiatives such as homeless shelters, supportive housing programs, professional case management, clinical services, the Open Hand Kitchen, Food Pantry, and retail thrift stores, SVDP operates with a mission to serve those in need with compassion and dignity. The organization is deeply embedded in the community, striving to effect positive change by addressing basic needs while fostering long-term well-being and self-sufficiency.

The Kitchen Staff position at SVDP plays a vital role within the Open Hand Kitchen, which serves nutritious meals to individuals experiencing homelessness and food insecurity. The role is designed for individuals passionate about food service and community care, where they will assist in the planning, preparation, crafting, and presentation of meals as well as maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the kitchen. This position requires working cooperatively with kitchen guests, clients, staff, and volunteers to ensure meal service operates smoothly while adhering to strict sanitation and safety standards. The Kitchen Staff is expected to utilize rescued food effectively to minimize waste, ensure proper labeling and storage of food items, and maintain an orderly kitchen environment.

Candidates appointed to this role will be committed to SVDP's mission and will bring attention to detail, reliability, and a collaborative spirit. The position also demands a willingness to follow health department sanitation processes and obtain necessary certifications such as Health Department Certification within six months of employment. Employees receive immediate access to paid holidays, free meals, free parking, counseling resources, and discounts at the thrift store upon hire, along with a full benefits package after 30, 90, and 180 days covering health, dental, vision insurance, retirement plans, paid time off, and education support. The workplace environment emphasizes inclusivity, diversity, and equal opportunity, inviting applications from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences.

By joining the kitchen staff at St Vincent de Paul, Louisville, employees become part of an organization dedicated to making tangible impacts in the community through food service and social support. This role not only offers valuable experiences in food preparation and kitchen management but also provides a meaningful connection to the mission of serving those in need. It is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to combine culinary skills with social impact in a fast-paced, mission-oriented environment. The position encourages ongoing professional development and fosters a respectful and collaborative workplace.
