The available position within the Christina School District is for a Cooking School Lead Worker at The Bayard School. The lead worker is expected to ensure that meals served are compliant with USDA Child Nutrition Program requirements and state food safety regulations, including Delaware Food Code. This involves coordinating kitchen workflows, delegating tasks to employees, maintaining records such as inventories and time sheets, and overseeing kitchen sanitation and food storage practices in line with HACCP guidelines. Job Qualifications

  • completion of four units of State School Food Service training or willingness to complete these units quickly or documented culinary degree
  • servsafe certification required by Delaware Food Code
  • knowledge of sanitation precautions and procedures during food preparation and storage
  • knowledge of HACCP guidelines
  • knowledge or willingness to learn USDA Child Nutrition Program requirements
  • basic computer skills including email, excel, POS
  • cooperative attitude and ability to work well with students, school personnel, co-workers and management
  • physical ability to perform all responsibilities
  • willingness to assume additional responsibility

Job Duties

  • ensure that students and staff are served meals that meet USDA meal requirements
  • coordinate the overall workflow of the assigned kitchen
  • delegate tasks to employees as necessary
  • assist co-workers when needed
  • perform the regular duties of a cook or general worker when necessary
  • maintain accurate preliminary inventories, time sheets and daily records
  • advise the Manager of food, supplies, equipment, repairs and services needed
  • follow safe food handling practices including taking food temperatures
  • maintain standards of health, sanitation and safety according to district HACCP plan
  • keep all work and storage areas swept and clean
  • assist Manager in training new hires
  • ensure proper use, operation and sanitation of all kitchen equipment
  • perform other tasks and responsibilities assigned by Child Nutrition Manager
  • display and enforce approved standards of personal hygiene and grooming
  • maintain a cooperative and accommodating attitude towards co-workers, students, faculty, Management and Administration
  • perform computer procedures following existing protocol
  • perform other related duties as assigned by Manager, Specialist or Supervisor
