Job Requirements
- must be free from the use of drugs and alcohol
- ability to lift 50 pounds
- must be able to stand and work continuously for at least 4 hours per workday
- must be able to use arms and hands without restrictions to accommodate student needs
- must report to work on time every workday
- must perform all assigned duties during scheduled workdays
- mental ability to manage multiple priorities and communicate effectively
- ability to remain calm in emergencies and handle stressful situations
- possess good organizational skills
Job Qualifications
- completion of four units of State School Food Service training or willingness to complete these units quickly or documented culinary degree
- servsafe certification required by Delaware Food Code
- knowledge of sanitation precautions and procedures during food preparation and storage
- knowledge of HACCP guidelines
- knowledge or willingness to learn USDA Child Nutrition Program requirements
- basic computer skills including email, excel, POS
- cooperative attitude and ability to work well with students, school personnel, co-workers and management
- physical ability to perform all responsibilities
- willingness to assume additional responsibility
Job Duties
- ensure that students and staff are served meals that meet USDA meal requirements
- coordinate the overall workflow of the assigned kitchen
- delegate tasks to employees as necessary
- assist co-workers when needed
- perform the regular duties of a cook or general worker when necessary
- maintain accurate preliminary inventories, time sheets and daily records
- advise the Manager of food, supplies, equipment, repairs and services needed
- follow safe food handling practices including taking food temperatures
- maintain standards of health, sanitation and safety according to district HACCP plan
- keep all work and storage areas swept and clean
- assist Manager in training new hires
- ensure proper use, operation and sanitation of all kitchen equipment
- perform other tasks and responsibilities assigned by Child Nutrition Manager
- display and enforce approved standards of personal hygiene and grooming
- maintain a cooperative and accommodating attitude towards co-workers, students, faculty, Management and Administration
- perform computer procedures following existing protocol
- perform other related duties as assigned by Manager, Specialist or Supervisor
