Job Description

Sourdough Fuel is a division of Petro Star Inc., a subsidiary of Arctic Slope Regional Corporation (ASRC). This company operates seven gas stations in the Fairbanks and North Pole area of Alaska, with six stations featuring convenience stores that offer groceries, merchandise, propane, and specialty services such as Hot Stuff Pizza franchises. Additionally, Sourdough Fuel manages the Hilltop Truck Stop, which is a comprehensive service facility along the Alaskan Haul Road, providing a full-service restaurant, grocery store, and fuel station. As a well-established player in the retail fuel and convenience store industry, Sourdough Fuel has built a reputation for quality service and community engagement in the regions they serve. They offer a unique work environment combining fuel services with retail and food service operations, providing employees with diverse working opportunities.

The role currently being offered is for a Retail Store Cashier (RSC), reporting directly to the Retail Store Manager. This position is hourly paid at $17.00 per hour and features a 4/10 work schedule, meaning employees work four days a week with ten-hour shifts. There is also an attractive sign-on bonus of $1,000, partially paid after 30 days of employment and the remainder after six months, highlighting the company's commitment to retaining quality employees. The Retail Store Cashier is integral to delivering an outstanding customer experience by providing friendly and efficient service during every customer interaction. As a cashier, the individual will be responsible for accurately operating the cash registers, processing various forms of payment, handling fuel transactions, and maintaining safety and legal compliance, especially regarding the sale of age-restricted products such as tobacco. The RSC plays a key role in safeguarding the company assets by following strict policies and operational procedures.

Additionally, the role encompasses a variety of duties that cross-train employees in both food service and fuel retail operations, enhancing skills applicable to multiple facets of Sourdough Fuel's service offerings. Responsibilities include maintaining cleanliness and merchandising standards in the store, performing general cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, and emptying trash, operating gas pumps and dispensing propane safely, and assisting in deli product preparation as needed. The position requires physical stamina to stand for extended periods and to handle merchandise weighing up to 50 pounds, as well as the ability to work varied hours including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime.

Working at Sourdough Fuel means joining a team-oriented environment where professionalism and positive communication are valued. The company emphasizes teamwork, safety, and a positive work atmosphere to foster employee success and satisfaction. Being part of Petro Star Inc. and ASRC means working for a drug-free employer committed to equity and diversity, providing equal opportunity regardless of race, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, and other protected statuses. Employees in this role also benefit from comprehensive training programs, including mandatory training to prevent underage tobacco sales, ensuring compliance with federal laws and enhancing knowledge in customer service and operations.

Through this position, employees have an opportunity to develop skills in retail and food service in Alaska’s unique market, under a company committed not only to operational excellence but also to community presence and employee well-being. Candidates who are motivated, customer-focused, and ready to contribute positively to the team will find this opportunity rewarding and promising for career growth in retail and fuel services.
