Job Description

Florida Institute of Technology, located in Melbourne, Florida, is a renowned private research university committed to academic excellence, innovation, and community engagement. It offers a vibrant campus life and supports diverse programs across science, engineering, aviation, business, humanities, and psychology. With a dedication to fostering a supportive environment for students and staff alike, Florida Tech emphasizes a combination of rigorous education and practical experience. The university's Dining Services play a crucial role in providing quality food options that enhance the campus experience for students, faculty, and visitors. They operate numerous dining locations, including the Rathskeller Pizza & Grill, a popular late-night venue that blends convenience with quality food offerings.

The role of Cook/Cashier at Florida Tech’s Rathskeller Pizza & Grill is a dynamic, fast-paced position integral to the campus dining operation. This position involves working in an open kitchen environment where food is prepared to order, ensuring fresh and timely service for students and staff during the evening hours from 4:00 pm to 11:30 pm daily. The responsibilities include preparing a variety of hot and cold menu items from both fresh and frozen ingredients, while adhering to strict food safety and presentation standards. The position requires proficiency in operating pizza making equipment, fryers, and flat-top grill stations, alongside maintaining cleanliness and order in the kitchen and dining environment.

In addition to cooking duties, the Cook/Cashier will sometimes operate the Point of Sale (POS) system to take customer orders and handle transactions. Interaction with customers, delivering food around the campus, and assisting with restocking convenient store shelves and drink coolers are also key aspects of the role. Successful candidates should be comfortable working under pressure in a rapidly changing environment and be committed to maintaining hygiene and safety regulations to ensure customer satisfaction. The role is ideal for individuals who enjoy a blend of food preparation and customer service, with opportunities to gain experience in both culinary and cash handling operations.

Candidates with a high school diploma or GED, relevant food service experience, and a valid driver’s license are preferred, as the role may involve driving university vehicles for food deliveries. Florida Tech values teamwork and requires all staff to assist in keeping the dining areas clean and organized. The university is an equal opportunity employer that upholds inclusive hiring practices without discrimination based on race, gender, disability, or other protected classes. As part of its commitment to campus safety, Florida Tech adheres to federal regulations including the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy. Any reasonable accommodations for disabilities are supported through the university's Office of Human Resources. This position represents a great opportunity for motivated individuals looking to contribute to a vibrant university dining service while developing valuable food service and customer interaction skills.
