Franciscan Health Michigan City Campus is currently seeking a Cook/Baker to join their dedicated team. This pivotal role is responsible for preparing high-quality foods that are served to patients, staff, visitors, and at special events. The successful candidate will be integral in maintaining the highest standards of food preparation while adhering strictly to regulatory agency requirements, ensuring food safety and quality at every stage. The Cook/Baker role demands a strong commitment to safe food handling techniques, impeccable attention to detail for food taste and appearance, and proficiency in operating various kitchen equipment like combo-ovens, slicers, steamers, and mixers.
Beyond food preparation, this role will require labeling and dating of food products following established protocols and meeting stringent schedule and time requirements. The Cook/Baker will work closely with food production sheets to ensure correct quantities of food are produced and consistently available to all service areas, facilitating smooth cafeteria or patient meal services. A key aspect of the role is adherence to sanitation guidelines enforced by federal, state, and HFAP regulatory agencies, emphasizing the importance of cleanliness and safe kitchen environments.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 1-2 years cooking experience preferred
- Food Handler Certification - ServSafe required in Illinois
- ability to follow food safety protocols
- capability to operate kitchen equipment
- ability to adhere to sanitation guidelines
- willingness to travel as required
Job Qualifications
- Preferred high school diploma/GED
- 2 years institutional cooking preferred
- 1 year food service and/or cooking preferred
- Food Handler Certification - ServSafe required in Illinois
- Food Handler Certification - ServSafe preferred in Indiana
Job Duties
- Label and date food products according to established procedures
