Job Requirements

  • Ability to work in a corrections environment
  • willingness to work various shifts including evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime
  • ability to pass thorough background investigation including fingerprinting and criminal history check
  • physical ability to lift, carry, and move up to 50 pounds
  • ability to stand for prolonged periods
  • ability to provide excellent customer service
  • must complete full King County application and supplemental questionnaire
  • union membership in International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 117

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • previous experience in cooking or baking in a high-volume setting
  • experience with supervision or training of staff or workers
  • knowledge of nutritional standards and health codes
  • ability to work in a secure corrections environment
  • customer service skills
  • ability to operate commercial kitchen equipment
  • ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for long periods
  • ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing

Job Duties

  • Cook, bake, prepare, and portion meals for jail residents and staff
  • estimate meal orders and plan menus
  • assemble ingredients and supplies
  • supervise and train work crews or jail resident workers
  • provide clear directions and training to new hires
  • portion and serve food while supervising food distribution
  • prepare reports on food usage and leftovers
  • maintain food, supply, and equipment inventory
  • ensure cleanliness and safety standards
  • uphold health code and quality controls
  • prepare special diet meals and verify diet orders
  • address conflicts to maintain a secure environment
  • perform maintenance on commercial kitchen equipment
  • stand for prolonged periods and lift supplies up to 50 pounds
  • prepare incident reports
  • provide excellent customer service
  • drive DAJD kitchen vehicles and load/unload trucks
  • perform other duties to support Food Services Section
