Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • minimum one year of hospital, institutional, or restaurant cooking experience
  • knowledge of food preparation and cooking techniques
  • ability to follow recipes and modify them
  • ability to operate food service equipment safely
  • understanding of food safety and sanitation regulations
  • ability to work 12-hour shifts including nights
  • flexibility for assignment duration and start date
  • good communication and teamwork skills
  • physical ability to stand for extended periods and perform kitchen tasks

Job Duties

  • Prepares a variety of foods for all areas of dining services including patient, guest, cafeteria, and catering
  • assures high quality of foods produced and served
  • assures compliance with food safety and sanitation procedures
  • assists in the planning of menus and in the purchasing of staples
  • prepares and cooks in large quantities food for service including scratch cooking from basic ingredients
  • coordinates room service trayline to ensure sufficient and proper food items are available during meal service
  • participates in recipe development
  • follows recipes to prepare and cook food items
  • modifies or converts recipes for different quantities and special diets as directed by manager
  • ensures proper quality and appearance of product according to established standards
  • performs opening/closing of cooking and production areas including equipment checks and temperature monitoring
  • adheres to proper food handling, sanitation, and safety procedures
  • documents HACCP logs routinely
  • maintains organized and efficient food production areas
  • coordinates food orders and assists food service aides checking incoming orders
  • stores leftovers according to standards and plans utilization to minimize waste
  • orders food supplies and maintains inventory
  • receives, checks, and signs for foodstuff or issuing
  • monitors hot food availability during cafeteria service hours and adjusts accordingly
  • plans daily, holiday, and theme menus with supervisor
  • ensures smooth cafeteria operation during supervisor absence
  • maintains cleanliness and sanitation of equipment and food storage
  • completes cleaning and dishwashing tasks as scheduled
  • listens to customer complaints and suggestions, facilitates improvement, resolves complaints
  • instructs staff on equipment use and safety
  • participates or contributes to programs and projects improving quality and productivity
