Job Description
Summit is a specialized food service provider committed to serving correctional institutions across the United States. Their mission is to provide incarcerated individuals with access to nutritious, well-prepared meals that meet dietary standards while also fostering vital social interaction during mealtimes. As a part of the larger Elior North America family, Summit operates with a strong emphasis on diversity, inclusion, and employee development. Elior North America is an equal opportunity employer dedicated to fostering an environment where employees can grow their skills and advance in their careers, whether within corporate offices or through various brand segments including corrections. They are committed to providing a structured yet community-focused workplace that values the contributions of every team member.
This full-time, onsite position is for a Cook Supervisor at Summit’s correctional facility kitchen based in Virginia Beach, Virginia. This role requires working the night shift from 11:00 pm to 7:30 am and involves coordinating and supervising kitchen staff to ensure operational efficiency, food quality, and adherence to safety standards. Unlike a typical restaurant environment, the kitchen operations here are highly structured to maintain the safety and smooth functioning of the correctional facility. The Cook Supervisor will be responsible for instructing and training employees on all aspects of food service and sanitation, preparing and serving meals in accordance with established menus and dietary guidelines, and maintaining a clean, safe kitchen environment. The role demands a strong background in culinary arts combined with leadership skills to manage a diverse team comprising kitchen staff, correctional officers, and inmate workers.
Applicants must undergo a background check consistent with correctional facility requirements and applicable laws. The position offers a competitive compensation rate of $19.00 per hour and includes a comprehensive benefits package featuring medical, dental, and vision insurance, voluntary accident and critical illness coverage, commuter benefits, and retirement planning options among others. This role is ideal for individuals who possess at least one year of culinary experience in a high-volume, quality-focused environment, have excellent multitasking abilities, and demonstrate a strong commitment to maintaining food safety and quality standards. Additionally, having experience supervising a team is essential, with a preference for candidates holding Food Handlers certification.
Overall, the Cook Supervisor role at Summit provides a unique opportunity to contribute to the correctional system by ensuring the delivery of nutritious meals in a secure and professional setting. Candidates who thrive in fast-paced environments and are passionate about culinary excellence and team leadership will find this position rewarding and impactful. Working for Summit and Elior North America means joining a company that values diversity and inclusion while offering growth and advancement opportunities within the food service industry in various sectors.
