Job Description

Summit is a specialized food service provider dedicated to serving correctional institutions. The company focuses on ensuring that incarcerated individuals across the United States receive delicious, healthy meals at each serving. Summit operates with a commitment to quality, safety, and community-focused service, providing a structured kitchen environment that supports the smooth functioning of correctional facilities. As part of Elior North America, a well-established employer committed to diversity and employee development, Summit offers a unique opportunity to contribute positively within a correctional facility setting. Elior North America embraces equal opportunity employment practices, promoting an inclusive work environment that supports growth and advancement for all team members regardless of background or ability. This commitment ensures that employees can develop valuable skills and gain meaningful experience that helps propel their careers within the company or beyond.

The role of Cook Supervisor at Summit's correctional facility kitchen in Virginia Beach is a full-time, onsite position that operates overnight from 11:00 PM to 7:30 AM. This position involves coordinating and supervising kitchen staff, including correctional staff and inmate workers, to maintain consistent high standards in a highly structured and fast-paced environment unique to correctional institutions. Unlike typical restaurant roles, this job emphasizes operational efficiency, safety, and adherence to established food service and sanitation protocols within a secure setting.

In this leadership role, the Cook Supervisor will be responsible for instructing and training employees in food preparation and sanitation, overseeing meal services to ensure timeliness and quality, and maintaining a clean, safe kitchen that complies with all food safety and correctional security procedures. The supervisor will help prepare and serve meals according to specific dietary guidelines while managing staff performance and workflow. This position requires someone with strong culinary expertise, excellent attention to detail, and proven supervisory experience, particularly in environments emphasizing large-volume, scratch cooking.

Candidates for this role must be prepared to pass a background check consistent with correctional facility regulations. The compensation for this role is $19.00 per hour. Summit offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision coverage for full-time employees, along with additional voluntary insurance options, commuter benefits, employee assistance programs, and paid time off. Opportunities for tuition reimbursement and holiday pay are also provided.

Working at Summit provides a distinctive chance to make a meaningful impact on the correctional system by ensuring quality meals that support both nutrition and social interaction. The organization values teamwork, safety, and consistency, making it an ideal workplace for those looking to combine culinary skills with public service. The position not only offers steady employment but also a pathway for professional development within Elior North America’s expansive network.
