Job Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship
  • Successful completion of pre-employment screening including background check, urinalysis, and physical
  • Compliance with selective service registration if applicable
  • Passing the Core Value Assessment (for non-current BOP employees)
  • Completion of Introduction to Correctional Techniques training
  • Meet age requirements or provide proof of veteran status
  • Provide proof of Food Protection Manager Certification at application
  • Ability to serve a one-year probationary period
  • Commitment to upholding security and institutional policies
  • Willingness to work in a correctional institution environment

Job Qualifications

  • Sufficient training and experience relevant to the position
  • Ability to supervise inmate workers effectively
  • Aptitude for working with prisoners
  • Knowledge of food preparation including special and modified diets
  • Skill in cooking and managing large quantity food production
  • Possession of Food Protection Manager Certification from an ANSI-accredited provider
  • Capability to perform security functions within a correctional environment

Job Duties

  • Provide supervision and instruction to inmate workers assigned to cooking and related duties
  • Provide continual training to inmate workers on food production, presentation, and sanitation
  • Oversee receiving, storing, and issuing of all food and non-food items
  • Manage security operations including key control, yeast control, knife and blade control, and inmate accountability
  • Conduct routine contraband searches throughout the work area
  • Maintain institutional security as part of correctional staff
  • Ensure food preparation meets standardized recipes and dietary requirements
