As a part of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, this establishment upholds the mission of providing exceptional care, comfort, and support to those who have served in the armed forces. The VAMC offers comprehensive medical services, including inpatient and outpatient care, rehabilitation, mental health services, and specialty care to veterans in Mississippi and neighboring regions. The Jackson VAMC is staffed by experienced healthcare professionals and support personnel who work collaboratively to ensure veteran-centered healthcare that respects dignity and promotes quality of life. This facility is also a leader in medical education and research, which enhances the care it delivers to the veteran community.
This job opening is for a full-time Cook Supervisor position within the Nutrition and Food Service department at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Jackson. The role is pivotal in planning, producing, directing, coordinating, and monitoring all phases of food production in the medical center. The Cook Supervisor takes on a managerial role ensuring operational excellence in food service and production while aligning with diet manuals, nutrition standards, and regulatory requirements suitable for a healthcare setting. The individual will be responsible for supervising cooks and food service workers, managing work schedules, overseeing inventory and supply usage, and coordinating with other departments to maintain efficient workflow. Emphasizing quality, safety, and veteran-centered meal services is crucial in this role, given the sensitive nature of patient care and dietary needs. The Cook Supervisor must be adept at handling kitchen operations in environments subject to high demands, including working around extremes of temperature, handling heavy equipment, and maintaining sanitary standards. Effective leadership, problem-solving skills, and the capacity to oversee multiple tasks are essential. This position offers a pay scale WS 6 with a salary range of $30.90 to $36.05 per hour and involves a schedule that may include early mornings, late evenings, and alternating weekends or holidays. The position requires working on-site at the Jackson VAMC and does not offer telework options or relocation incentives. The Cook Supervisor reports directly to the Food Service Section Supervisor and acts as the first-level supervisor over the cooks, ensuring that food production meets the quality standards expected in a federal healthcare facility. Vital to this role is the commitment to improving government efficiency and upholding U.S. laws and regulations, making it a unique and rewarding federal career opportunity with comprehensive benefits and competitive pay.
