Job Description
The U.S. Army at Fort Carson, Colorado, is seeking a dedicated and skilled Cook Supervisor to join their team in a full-time, permanent capacity. Fort Carson is a renowned military installation that supports vital Department of Defense activities, providing operational readiness and life support services to soldiers and personnel stationed at the base. The Army prides itself on maintaining high standards of discipline, safety, and excellence in all its operations, which include the critical realm of food service and nutrition. This position offers a salary range of $31.25 to $36.46 per hour under the WS 4 pay scale and grade. The role is integral to ensuring the quality, safety, and efficiency of food production within Army facilities, including the Cadet Mess and off-post camps.
The Cook Supervisor will oversee food preparation operations, ensuring compliance with established food safety standards and the highest quality of culinary output for military personnel. Responsibilities include inspecting completed work to maintain quality, planning work schedules and delegating tasks to subordinates, and determining and addressing training requirements to optimize team performance. The supervisor will instruct staff on new procedures, maintain all food production equipment, and assure that necessary supplies are ordered and delivered promptly to designated work sites. The role involves direct supervision and leadership, fostering a productive, safe, and compliant working environment for all kitchen staff.
In this role, the Cook Supervisor must be adaptable to varying work schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, reflecting the dynamic operational requirements of a military installation. The position entails physical demands such as moderate to heavy lifting and exposure to varying environmental conditions, including extreme heat and cold. Compliance with a pre-employment medical examination, immunizations, sanitation certification (such as ServeSafe), and ongoing physical assessments are required to ensure the incumbent is fit for duty. The Cook Supervisor will also undergo background investigations and participate in a one-year supervisory probationary period, confirming fitness for the role and contribution to the public interest.
Candidates should bring demonstrated leadership capabilities and a thorough working knowledge of cooking techniques, food safety regulations, and kitchen equipment maintenance. The position attracts individuals committed to improving the efficiency of federal government services while upholding the ideals and constitutional principles of the United States. The Army offers a professional, structured environment where supervision skills are honed, and contributions significantly impact the well-being and morale of service members through high-quality food services.
