Job Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalency preferred
  • Completion of Food Preparation Assistant course preferred
  • Working knowledge of USDA School Meal Programs preferred
  • Working knowledge of methods, principles, equipment, and materials used in institutional food preparation
  • Working knowledge of sanitation, health, and occupational safety procedures used in institutional food preparation
  • Ability to operate and maintain food service equipment and kitchen machinery
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions, menus, and recipes
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective public and working relationships and good customer service skills

Job Duties

  • Plan menus and order food, paper products, and cleaning supplies as needed
  • Take routine inventory of utensils, supplies, and equipment and report findings
  • Receive deliveries, date mark and review quality of food items, and stock properly
  • Prepare food items according to menus and standardized recipes with adjustments as needed
  • Operate kitchen machinery such as mixers, ovens, slicers, and coffee urns
  • Clean, maintain, and sanitize work areas, utensils, appliances, and kitchen equipment
  • Sweep, mop floors, empty wastebaskets, and clean restrooms to maintain sanitary conditions
