Job Requirements
- Less than high school education
- One year of cooking experience
- Valid Texas Motor Vehicle Operator's License
- Food Handler's Certificate or must acquire within one month
- Food Manager's Certificate must be obtained within six months
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds occasionally
- Ability to stand, walk, and perform physical tasks
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions
- Ability to maintain cleanliness and food safety standards
- Ability to supervise participants assigned to the kitchen
Job Qualifications
- Less than high school education with demonstrated ability to read, write, and follow directions
- Training in cooking, nutrition, and health protection in food handling
- One year of experience as a cook
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
- Ability to write simple correspondence
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved instructions
- Demonstrated ability to read and follow recipes
- Demonstrated ability to follow oral and written instructions in preparing food items
- Ability to cook for a large group
- Food Handler's Certificate or ability to acquire within one month
- Food Manager's Certificate within six months
- Valid Texas Motor Vehicle Operator's License
Job Duties
- Prepares nutritious meals according to established menus for both congregate and home-bound Senior Community Service participants
- Maintains kitchen area, equipment, and utensils in a safe, clean, and neat manner according to health regulations
- Maintains adequate inventory of food and staples
- Assists in packaging and delivering meals to other centers and to homebound senior citizens
- Maintains a clean personal appearance and washes hands frequently during food preparation and clean up
- Supervises Community Service participants and/or government program participants involved in washing food, washing dishes and utensils, and cleaning tables, floors, and kitchen equipment
- Serves food to congregate meal participants and cleans dining area after meals
- Picks up supplies from Food Bank once a month
- Assists with cleaning, striping, and waxing floors as needed or annually
- Assigns and reviews work of participants assigned to the kitchen from Community Services and employment programs
