Job Requirements

  • Must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily
  • high school diploma or equivalent
  • experience in cooking at a Skilled Nursing Facility and/or an Assisted Living Facility
  • experience in preparation of therapeutic diets
  • must have Food Handlers Card/ServSafe Certificate
  • ability to read and understand English to follow menu specifications and check in orders
  • ability to keep all required certificates and/or licenses current
  • ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions
  • ability to follow safety precautions when handling sharp knives, slicing, and institutional equipment to prevent injuries
  • knowledge of safe food handling
  • good interpersonal communication skills to instruct others

Job Qualifications

  • Must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily
  • high school diploma or equivalent, or one to three months related experience and/or training
  • experience with cooking at a Skilled Nursing Facility and/or an Assisted Living Facility
  • experience in preparation of therapeutic diets
  • must have Food Handlers Card/ServSafe Certificate, knowledge of safe food handling
  • ability to read and understand English to follow menu specifications and check in orders, to follow safety rules, company/departmental policies and procedures

Job Duties

  • Follows daily cleaning schedule and work assignments
  • reviews menu and determines types, quantities of food items to be prepared for residents and special functions
  • handles, stores, and serves food in safe and sanitary manner, discards leftover per policy and procedures
  • prepares and serves meal with proper quantity and correct portion size according to menu and standardized recipes
  • understands and follows color coding and abbreviations of tray cards, abbreviations of therapeutic menus and tableware
  • understands and adheres to proper cooling policy and procedure when handling potentially hazardous food
  • checks and records food temperature to ensure the temperature is in compliance
