Job Description
The hiring organization is a tribal government entity that focuses on providing comprehensive community services with an emphasis on cultural sensitivity and respect for Native American traditions. This tribal government entity is committed to offering a workplace that values diversity, inclusion, and quality care for its members and residents. Within their operational framework, they manage facilities designed to support elders and local residents, showing dedication to community well-being through specialized roles and tailored services.
This particular role is for a Food Service Worker who will be responsible for preparing meals and snacks for residents residing in two lodge facilities operated by the tribal government. These lodges serve as community centers providing essential food services that meet the nutritional needs of the residents. The Food Service Worker plays a critical role in maintaining high standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and food safety while ensuring that all meals meet established dietary and cultural requirements. This position is essential to supporting the daily operations of the lodges' kitchen and dining areas, contributing to the overall health and satisfaction of the residents.
The position offers a starting wage range of $18.86 to $24.07 per hour, making it a competitive role within the community services sector. Employment likely involves standard work hours with possible requirements for local travel and occasional physical labor including lifting and standing for extended periods. The work environment is primarily indoors with some exposure to outdoor conditions.
The Food Service Worker is entrusted with various key responsibilities including meal preparation, cleaning and sanitizing kitchen and dining environments, managing pantry stock, handling leftovers according to proper health and safety regulations, and supporting periodic deep cleaning efforts. Coordination with supervisors and vendors ensures that food procurement aligns with menu requirements and provision standards. Additionally, this role assists with recreational cooking activities and may require ongoing communication with supervisors regarding inventory status or equipment maintenance issues.
Candidates should hold a minimum of a high school diploma or GED and have at least one year of cooking experience in a regulated environment or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. The role also requires possession of a First Aid/CPR certificate within 180 days of hire, a food handler's card within 30 days, and compliance with privacy standards related to the Privacy Act. The ability to work sensitively within Native American cultural contexts is essential.
Physical requirements include the ability to perform repetitive hand movements, standing or sitting for long periods, occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds, and moving objects horizontally or raising them from lower to higher positions. Employees must adhere to tribal safety policies and emergency management plans. Background checks and fingerprinting are part of the hiring process due to the nature of the work and interaction with vulnerable populations.
Overall, this opportunity offers a meaningful career path for individuals interested in community-serving roles within tribal government, emphasizing cultural respect and public health standards. The Food Service Worker position provides a stable income and the chance to contribute to the well-being of a close-knit community while working in a supportive, safety-conscious environment.
