The Nutrition Services team is dedicated to adhering to strict food safety standards, including ServSafe certification protocols, and meeting the dietary needs as stipulated by healthcare guidelines. As a part of a committed and professional team, the department strives for excellence in culinary preparation, efficient kitchen operation, and maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and food safety. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about cooking, food preparation, and supporting health through nutrition in a structured and supervised environment.
The position offered is that of a Prep Cook specializing in salads within the Nutrition Services department. The Prep Cook - Salads is tasked with various daily responsibilities including cleaning and slicing fresh produce to prepare salad bars and salad stations. In addition to salads, this role supports general kitchen duties such as preparing breakfast, lunch, and dinner on occasion, serving the steam table on the tray line when needed, and assisting in the preparation of various food items including lunch meats, soups, vegetables, hot breads, and main dishes. The Prep Cook also takes part in advanced preparation of meats and plans breakfast meats for the following day. A key component of this role includes maintaining cleanliness and sanitation by washing and air-drying pans and equipment, cleaning the cooking area, steamtables, and organizing shelves at the end of each shift.
Working under the general supervision of the Chef and Food Service Supervisor, the Prep Cook is an essential player in the smooth operation of the kitchen, ensuring that food is prepared on time, maintaining high-quality standards, and following all food safety guidelines such as ServSafe standards. The position demands physical stamina, being able to stand, walk, stoop, lift, and adapt to temperature changes while remaining mentally alert. Five years of cooking experience and a high school diploma are required, with a preference for candidates who have experience in a healthcare facility environment. ServSafe certification is mandatory, ensuring that candidates are well-versed in the principles of safe food handling and preparation.
The Prep Cook role offers an opportunity to be part of a nutrition service team that emphasizes quality food preparation, hygienic practices, and teamwork in a healthcare setting where the impact of nutritious meals can significantly affect patient recovery and health maintenance.
