The role of Cook at Church's Chicken is pivotal to ensuring the consistent delivery of high-quality food products to customers. Reporting directly to the Restaurant General Manager and working within the Field Operations Department, the Cook is responsible for preparing and cooking food items according to detailed specifications outlined in Church's Operating Standards Manual (OSM). This position requires strict adherence to safety, sanitation, and quality procedures to maintain the brand's reputation for excellence. The Cook plays a hands-on role in managing kitchen operations during shifts, from setting up preparation stations such as the batter table to ensuring fryers are properly maintained and food items are cooked to perfection. Beyond cooking, this role involves monitoring equipment functionality, managing inventory at the batter area, and maintaining cleanliness and organization of the kitchen and cooler. Church's Chicken seeks a reliable and energetic individual able to perform these tasks efficiently within a fast-paced environment, consistently producing food according to the company's standards while practicing "clean-as-you-go" principles to uphold hygiene and safety.

The physical demands of this role are significant and require strength and stamina. The Cook must be able to handle medium to heavy lifting—up to 50 pounds frequently and as much as 75 pounds occasionally. The position involves continuous standing and walking on hard floors for up to eight hours, lifting and stacking food and supply items, pushing or pulling equipment such as batter tables and mop buckets, and maintaining awareness of surroundings to perform duties safely and effectively. The role offers a hands-on opportunity to contribute directly to the customer experience by preparing meals that meet precise quality standards, while working as an integral part of a team dedicated to providing excellent service.

Job Requirements

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • previous experience in cooking or food preparation preferred
  • knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards

Job Duties

  • Set up the batter table, collect all necessary smallwares, and prepare batter mix
  • ensure that call sheets are complete, posted and used
  • check all equipment and immediately report any malfunctions within the area to the Manager in Charge
  • color balance fryers and add sufficient shortening to maintain proper shortening levels
  • filter and clean all fryers at designated times following safety guidelines
  • pan sufficient chicken for operational needs
  • prepare and cook all food product as directed by the Manager in Charge
  • ensure all food products meet specifications, procedures and quality standards including designated holding times
  • maintain a clean work area using clean-as-you-go practices and follow sanitation and safety guidelines
  • verify all necessary product and supplies are stocked and available at the batter area
  • maintain organization and cleanliness of the cooler
  • perform all other tasks as assigned by Manager in Charge of Shift
