The Cook position at Church's Chicken plays a crucial role in the daily operations of the restaurant. Reporting directly to the Restaurant General Manager and working within the Field Operations department, the Cook is responsible for preparing and cooking food products according to established specifications and procedures outlined in the Church’s Operating Standards Manual (OSM). This position demands adherence to high standards of food quality, safety, sanitation, and efficiency to ensure every meal served meets the company’s reputation for excellence. The Cook handles a variety of responsibilities including preparing batter mixes, managing fryer equipment, cooking chicken to precise specifications, and maintaining a clean and organized work area.
This role requires a physically demanding level of effort, including standing for long periods, lifting heavy items up to 75 pounds, and performing repetitive motions to ensure timely and quality food preparation. Safety is a top priority, and the individual must follow all safety guidelines including the proper use of safety equipment when filtering fryers or handling hot items. Beyond the essential cooking duties, the Cook also monitors equipment functionality, stocks necessary supplies, and supports other kitchen staff as directed by the Manager in Charge.

Job Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds occasionally and up to 50 pounds frequently
- Ability to stand and walk on hard floors for up to eight hours
- Willingness to work flexible hours including nights and weekends
- Ability to follow safety protocols and use safety equipment
- Ability to maintain cleanliness and organization in the kitchen
- Commitment to adhering to food quality and preparation standards
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Previous cooking experience in a fast-paced food service environment preferred
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices
- Ability to follow detailed cooking procedures and recipes
- Strong attention to detail and quality
- Ability to work well in a team environment
- Good communication skills
Job Duties
- Sets up the batter table, collects all necessary smallwares, and prepares batter mix
- Ensures that call sheets are complete, posted and used
- Checks all equipment and immediately reports any malfunctions within the area to the Manager in Charge
- Color balances fryers and adds sufficient shortening to maintain proper shortening levels
- Filters and cleans all fryers at designated times following safety guidelines
- Pans sufficient chicken for operational needs
- Prepares and cooks all food products as directed by the Manager in Charge
- Ensures all food products meet specifications, procedures and quality standards
- Maintains a clean work area by practicing clean-as-you-go
- Verifies product and supplies are stocked and available at the batter area
- Maintains organization and cleanliness of the cooler
- Performs other tasks as assigned by the Manager in Charge
