The role of Cook at Church's Chicken is integral to the operations of the restaurant, functioning within the Field Operations department and reporting directly to the Restaurant General Manager. This position focuses on preparing and cooking food products in accordance with the Church's Operating Standards Manual (OSM), maintaining high standards of food quality, safety, and cleanliness throughout the restaurant. The Cook is responsible for ensuring timely and efficient food production by setting up batter tables, collecting smallwares, preparing batter mixes, and managing cooking equipment like fryers and filters. Strict adherence to safety procedures, including the use of safety equipment when filtering fryers, is essential to the role.
In addition to primary cooking duties, the Cook maintains the organization and sanitation of the kitchen and storage areas, practicing clean-as-you-go techniques to uphold a hygienic work environment. This role demands physical endurance as it involves continuous standing, walking on hard floors, lifting medium to heavy items, and frequent movement of supplies and equipment within the restaurant. The Cook must be vigilant and able to multitask effectively, monitoring food quality, equipment function, and supply levels to meet the dynamic needs of the business during each shift.

Job Requirements
- ability to frequently stand and/or walk on hard floors for up to eight hours
- capacity to lift and stack 35 to 50 pounds frequently and occasionally carry items weighing up to 75 pounds
- ability to safely use kitchen equipment such as fryers and batter tables
- understanding of and adherence to food safety protocols
- willingness to maintain cleanliness and organization in the kitchen and storage areas
- ability to communicate effectively with customers, management, and team members
- meet physical demands such as stooping, reaching, climbing stools or ladders as necessary
Job Qualifications
- high school diploma or equivalent preferred
- previous cooking experience in a restaurant or food service environment advantageous
- knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards
- ability to follow recipes and operating procedures accurately
- good communication skills to interact with management and team members
- ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- physical stamina to meet the demands of the job including lifting and standing for extended periods
Job Duties
- set up the batter table, collect all necessary smallwares, and prepare batter mix
- ensure that call sheets are complete, posted and used
- check all equipment and immediately report any malfunctions within the area to the manager in charge
- color balance fryers and add sufficient shortening to maintain proper shortening levels
- filter and clean all fryers at designated times following safety guidelines
- pan sufficient chicken for operational needs
- prepare and cook all food products according to business needs and manager directives
- ensure all food products meet specifications, procedures, and quality standards including holding times
- maintain a clean work area by practicing clean-as-you-go sanitation and safety procedures
- verify all necessary product and supplies are stocked at the batter area
- maintain organization and cleanliness of the cooler
- perform other tasks as assigned by the manager in charge of shift
