The role of Cook at Church's Chicken involves preparing and cooking food products as directed by the Shift Manager while strictly following the specifications and procedures outlined in the Church's Operating Standards Manual (OSM). This position is critical in maintaining the food quality and safety standards that customers expect when they visit any Church's Chicken location. The Cook's responsibilities are multi-faceted, including setting up batter tables, preparing batter mix, balancing fryers, filtering and cleaning fryers according to safety standards, and cooking various food items at operational needs. They also ensure all products meet the quality specifications and adhere to designated holding times.

In addition to the primary cooking functions, the Cook maintains cleanliness and orderliness in their work area by practicing the "clean-as-you-go" approach and following all sanitation and safety guidelines. They are also responsible for verifying that all necessary products and supplies are stocked at the batter area, organizing the cooler, and performing other tasks assigned by the Manager in Charge of the shift.

This position demands considerable physical endurance, as the Cook must frequently stand and walk for long periods on hard floors while handling medium to heavy lifting tasks, such as moving supplies weighing up to 50 pounds regularly and occasionally up to 75 pounds. Physical demands also include pushing or pulling equipment, climbing stools or ladders, stooping, squatting, and continuously using hands to prepare food and manage various materials.

The Cook works closely with management and team members to ensure optimal customer service, food quality, and operational efficiency. Job Requirements

  • Ability to follow detailed cooking procedures and safety protocols
  • Physical capability to lift up to 75 pounds occasionally and frequently lift up to 50 pounds
  • Availability to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays

Job Duties

  • Set up the batter table, collect all necessary smallwares, and prepare batter mix
  • Ensure that call sheets are complete, posted and used
  • Check all equipment and immediately report any malfunctions within the area to the Manager in Charge
  • Color balance fryers and add sufficient shortening to maintain proper shortening level
  • Filter and clean all fryers at designated times following safety guidelines
  • Pan sufficient chicken for operational needs
  • Prepare and cook all food product as directed by the Manager in Charge
  • Ensure all food product meets specifications, procedures, and quality standards including strict observance of holding times
  • Maintain a clean work area by practicing clean-as-you-go and following sanitation and safety procedures
  • Verify all necessary product and supplies are stocked at the batter area
  • Maintain organization and cleanliness of the cooler
  • Perform all other tasks as assigned by Manager in Charge of Shift
