Job Description
The Comanche Nation is a sovereign tribal government committed to a mission of cultural preservation, community empowerment, and care for its members. The Comanche Nation operates a variety of programs to support the wellbeing of its community, including social services such as the Youth Shelter. The Youth Shelter provides a safe, confidential, and supportive environment to youth aged 0-18 who have experienced abuse, neglect, or deprivation. The shelter is staffed by compassionate professionals who deliver not only secure accommodations but also essential services such as nutritious meals, emotional support, supervision, and developmental activities. The shelter's operations run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on a rotating schedule to ensure continuous care and assistance to residents. As a part of the Comanche Nation's commitment to holistic youth care, the Youth Shelter emphasizes maintaining confidentiality, cultural awareness, safety, and personal growth for all young residents.The position available at the Youth Shelter is a Food Service Worker role focused on overseeing all aspects of food preparation and direct care of residents. This full-time employment opportunity primarily entails working the 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM shift but is flexible within the 24/7 rotating schedule. The role requires ensuring that all meals and snacks served to youth are healthy, nutritious, and diverse to meet varied dietary needs. Additionally, the role involves providing paraprofessional support, direct supervision, and intervention for youth between the ages of newborn to 18 years who come from challenging backgrounds. Responsibilities extend beyond food service to include detailed documentation of youth behaviors, developing personal goals with residents, facilitating participation in community and cultural events, and maintaining a professional and child-friendly environment. The selected candidate will support the program director with menu planning and grocery shopping to maintain effective operational standards and comply with health and safety regulations. This role does not include supervisory responsibilities but requires working closely under the guidance of the Program Director. Physical demands include the ability to actively participate in resident activities requiring physical exertion such as walking, standing, bending, lifting up to 50 pounds, and other motions essential for delivering quality care and supervision. The work setting is primarily within the shelter and its grounds, with some travel required to transport residents to appointments and events. Job Requirements
- Must be able to participate in all resident activities such as walking long distances, standing for extended periods, lifting up to 50 lbs, stooping, bending, crawling and squatting regularly
- must have prior experience as a cook and food service worker
- valid Oklahoma driver’s license
- must pass state and federal background checks and complete drug testing
- must maintain confidentiality
- able to work flexible rotating shifts
- able to perform transportation duties
- able to successfully complete required training including first aid, CPR and behavior management
- willing to work weekends and holidays
- able to perform job-related travel
