Job Description

The City of Arvada is a vibrant and dynamic municipality that takes pride in serving its community through a diverse range of services and initiatives. Known for its commitment to fostering innovation, inclusivity, and excellence, the City champions a welcoming and professional environment for both residents and employees alike. With a clear vision to "Dream Big and Deliver," Arvada emphasizes superior service delivery to enhance the quality of life for everyone within its community. The City operates various facilities and services, including public golf courses that feature restaurant operations requiring dedicated staff to maintain high standards of food preparation and customer satisfaction.

The City of Arvada is currently seeking a skilled and passionate Cook to join the team operating restaurants at two golf course facilities within the City. This is a temporary, variable-hour position with a starting pay rate of $19 per hour. Candidates must be prepared to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and must have reliable transportation to and from the job sites.

In this role, the cook will be responsible for the preparation and cooking of food items according to the City’s established menus and recipes. Adherence to health department and Division of Food Services standards is essential to ensure compliance and food safety. The position requires maintaining clean and organized workspaces, efficiently storing food orders, and attending to the cleanliness of kitchen equipment and storage areas.

The Cook will also be responsible for assisting with end-of-shift cleanups, including floors, counters, trash, and cardboard, ensuring the kitchen is a safe and sanitary environment for all staff and guests. Additionally, there will be expectations to attend team and organizational meetings or training sessions, representing the department professionally and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.

This position demands a blend of culinary proficiency and strong organizational skills. The cook must have at least one year of experience in a kitchen demonstrating competency in cooking techniques and food preparation. A high school diploma or GED is preferred but not required. Physical demands include moderate to considerable effort, often requiring lifting between 25 to 50 pounds and working in awkward positions such as on ladders. The work environment involves exposure to indoor loud noise and predictable hazards, which are well protected against.

The City of Arvada does not offer benefits to temporary or seasonal employees; however, temporary, variable hour, and health plan eligible employees accrue sick leave at a rate of one hour for every thirty hours worked, up to a maximum of 48 hours. The City's core values of Innovation, Passion, and Opportunity guide every employee to perform to the highest professional standards with integrity, inclusivity, and respect.

By joining the City of Arvada, you become part of a mission-driven organization that values diversity and is dedicated to delivering quality results and fostering an environment where employees can grow and thrive. This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals passionate about culinary arts and public service to contribute positively to the community while developing their skills in a professional setting.
