Job Description
Universal Health Services, Inc. (UHS) is one of the nation’s largest and most respected providers of hospital and healthcare services. Established as a Fortune 500 corporation, UHS has demonstrated impressive growth and achievement over the years, boasting annual revenues of $11.6 billion in 2020. The company was recognized as one of the World’s Most Admired Companies by Fortune in 2021, ranked #281 on the Fortune 500 list in 2020, and listed #330 in Forbes’ ranking of U.S. Largest Public Companies. Headquartered in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, UHS employs approximately 89,000 individuals and operates a widespread network that includes 26 acute care hospitals, 334 behavioral health facilities, 39 outpatient facilities and ambulatory care access points, an insurance offering, a physician network, and various related services across 38 U.S. states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and the United Kingdom.
Through a unique collaborative effort between Universal Health Services and Providence Health Services, the Inland Northwest Behavioral Health Hospital was established as the first free-standing mental health hospital in Spokane, Washington. This partnership highlights UHS’s commitment to addressing the behavioral health needs of communities by providing high-quality, accessible mental health care. Inland Northwest Behavioral Health Hospital focuses on delivering compassionate care tailored to patients' therapeutic needs within a safe environment.
This job opportunity is for a Cook/Chef position within the Behavioral Health hospital. This is a per diem role that requires a dedicated and mission-driven culinary professional to prepare fresh, appealing meals that support patient healing and adhere to the specific therapeutic diet requirements essential in behavioral health settings. The Cook/Chef works closely with the hospital’s dietitian team to ensure all meals meet nutritional and therapeutic guidelines and comply strictly with behavioral health safety standards. The position involves preparing high-quality meals that not only meet dietary restrictions but also appeal visually and gastronomically to patients and staff alike. Maintaining a clean, safe, and compliant kitchen environment is critical, as is assisting with food inventory, preparation, and contributing positively to teamwork within the dietary department.
Given the sensitive nature of behavioral health care, the Cook/Chef role is pivotal in aiding patient recovery by delivering consistent, patient-centered meal service. This position requires a strong background in professional cooking, particularly within healthcare, school/institutional food service, or commercial dining, with a minimum of five years of experience. Culinary training or equivalent hands-on experience, alongside required certifications such as a Food Handler's Permit or ServSafe Food Protection Manager certification (or the ability to obtain such within 30 days), are mandatory.
UHS prides itself on fostering a workplace culture that promotes mutual respect and equal opportunity. The company is committed to diversity and inclusion, ensuring its recruitment and employment practices adhere to equal employment opportunity standards regardless of race, color, religion, age, sex (including pregnancy, gender identity, and sexual orientation), genetic information, national origin, disability status, or protected veteran status. Prospective candidates can expect a streamlined and professional recruitment process with full transparency and security of personal information. This position at Inland Northwest Behavioral Health Hospital offers an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to behavioral health care within a respected, supportive, and well-established healthcare organization.
