Job Description
Island Health is a reputable healthcare provider committed to placing people at the center of everything we do. Operating within the healthcare industry, Island Health offers compassionate, high-quality care to patients while fostering a work culture that values integrity, compassion, teamwork, and continuous growth. Based in the scenic town of Anacortes, Washington, Island Health provides onsite employment opportunities and aims to support the community it serves with dedicated healthcare services and patient-focused care.
At Island Health, the Dietary team plays a pivotal role in supporting the mission to care for those who care for others. As part of this team, you will be instrumental in creating a positive, seamless experience that ensures every team member feels valued, supported, and heard. This role offers a per diem variable schedule, allowing flexibility for those needing adaptable working hours. The hourly salary range for this position is competitively set between $20.14 and $29.92, with additional shift differentials for night, evening, and weekend shifts to acknowledge and reward work done during these periods.
The position reports to the Director of Food Services, working collaboratively in planning and preparing food for patients, employees, the cafeteria, and the senior center. You will have the opportunity to participate in menu reviews, manage food orders, and assist in planning food utilization to minimize waste effectively. The role requires strict adherence to food safety regulations and standardized recipe compliance, modifying preparations for special diets when necessary. You will be involved in various aspects of kitchen operations including food preparation, portion control, sanitation, cost control, and occasionally providing leadership in the absence of a lead cook or Director.
This role is essential not only in food preparation but also in contributing to departmental management such as food ordering and oversight on workforce fitness and safety standards. With responsibilities like these, candidates must demonstrate a strong working knowledge of food safety principles and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. The workplace environment emphasizes cooperation and adaptability, catering to the variable conditions inherent in healthcare food service.
Joining Island Health means you become part of a community that believes in taking care of its employees so they can, in turn, take care of others. A comprehensive benefits package supports the well-being of team members, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, life insurance, disability coverage, retirement plans, tuition reimbursement, student loan repayment programs, and employee recognition events. This role represents a unique chance to make a meaningful difference in the lives of patients and team members alike, all within a supportive and community-focused work environment.
