Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • two years of cooking experience preferred
  • ability to read, write, and comprehend English
  • able to operate various kitchen equipment
  • must have or be willing to obtain ServSafe certification
  • ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and 35 pounds regularly
  • good hearing and vision normal or corrected
  • ability to work variable shifts
  • physical presence onsite essential
  • able to perform duties with or without reasonable accommodation

Job Qualifications

  • High School graduate or equivalent preferred
  • two years experience as a cook preferred
  • able to read and write English and understand and interpret detailed written and oral instructions
  • proficient in operating a variety of food service equipment such as fryers, choppers, and steamers
  • ServSafe certification with a minimum score of 75 percent preferred
  • able to communicate effectively with staff of all ages
  • skilled in basic cooking principles and recipe adjustment
  • ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • knowledge of HACCP and food safety standards

Job Duties

  • Performs all duties of an assistant cook
  • promotes and coordinates standard and special buffet set up and food station layouts as directed by manager or supervisor
  • manages requisitions for food and supplies and maintains menus and recipes for specific food stations
  • proficient in the use and set-up of all equipment related to food production and customer service including grills, ovens, steam tables, mixers, and pizza ovens
  • prepares and cooks a wide variety of foods following standardized recipes to achieve required taste, appearance, and nutritional standards
  • adjusts recipes quickly and accurately using basic cooking principles and elementary math skills
  • maintains work area and equipment in a clean and sanitary condition
  • promotes customer service through effective completion of assignments according to schedules and timelines
  • understands and follows oral and written directions
  • enforces HACCP programs including proper storage and temperature maintenance
  • performs duties of cook assistant, server, janitor, and limited bakery and pastry tasks
  • reconciles food usage through hands-on administration and resource tracking
  • adheres to all DCH Health System and Nutritional Services policies and procedures
  • works variable shifts as required
  • maintains safety standards and promotes risk reduction for patients, visitors, and employees
  • uses electronic mail, time and attendance software, and learning management tools
  • performs additional duties as assigned
