The Cook position at Friendship Village involves a critical role within the Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation facility. The ideal candidate for this role possesses a strong positive attitude toward customer service and demonstrates creativity in the kitchen while aligning their efforts with broader facility goals. This full-time role operates from 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM and focuses on preparing a wide range of food items based on standardized recipes. Responsibilities include preparing soups, stocks, sautéed dishes, fried foods, and baked items, ensuring all meals meet the community's high standards for quality and nutrition. The Cook is responsible for effectively managing inventory and sourcing supplies from storage timely to ensure seamless meal production every day.

Job Requirements

  • Ability to read and write in English
  • Perform basic arithmetic
  • Understand measurements and follow written and oral instructions in English
  • Minimum three years' experience as a cook in a hotel, restaurant, club, or similar institution
  • Understanding of basic cooking methods
  • Ability to plan and organize work
  • Ability to interpret instructions, recipes, specifications, and standards
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others
  • Knowledge of kitchen equipment operation and maintenance
  • Some knowledge of nutrition and diet

Job Duties

  • Prepare all food items as per standardized recipes including soups, stocks, sautéed, fried, and baked items

  • Ensure food preparation meets quality and safety standards
  • Collaborate with kitchen staff to maintain cleanliness and organization
  • Adapt recipes and meal preparation to meet nutritional guidelines
  • Assist in inventory management and kitchen equipment maintenance
