This full-time position as a Cook within Sierra Medical Center offers 40 hours per week, with a convenient schedule and full benefits package. Under the direct supervision of the Food & Nutrition Services Director, Supervisor, or Lead, the Cook plays an essential role in supporting the hospital’s food service operations. The cook's primary responsibility is to prepare food items that meet the nutritional needs of hospital patients, staff, and visitors, adhering strictly to approved recipes and food safety standards. This role involves working closely with the nutrition team to ensure meals are timely, appropriately portioned, and of the highest quality and appearance to support patient health and recovery.

The Cook is tasked with determining the types and quantities of foods required based on planned menus and tallies, managing food supplies efficiently, and assisting in storage and inventory processes. Attention to detail is crucial as the cook must follow specific recipes and presentation standards, including appropriate garnishing of meals. The position encourages teamwork, communication, and adherence to health regulations, providing challenging yet rewarding work in a dynamic healthcare setting. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One to three years of related experience or training
  • Ability to follow approved recipes and food safety standards
  • ServSafe Certification required within 6 months of hire
  • Ability to work full time at 40 hours per week
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Capacity to work under direct supervision and as part of a team

Job Qualifications

  • One to three (1-3) years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • High school graduate or equivalent preferred
  • ServSafe Certification within 6 months of hire

Job Duties

  • Determines types and quantities of all foods to be prepared by reviewing planned menus and printed tallies
  • Determines foods, supplies, equipment that are low in supply and uses list to communicate to Director, Supervisor
  • Assists in putting foods, supplies away appropriately in designated storage area after delivery
  • Ensures meals are ready at specified times and consults with director, supervisor regarding use of leftover food
  • Prepares all foods according to approved recipes and to suitable appearance standards while using garnishes when appropriate
