The Cook/Baker position at Franciscan Health Lafayette East Campus is essential to maintaining the high standards of food service required in a healthcare setting. This role involves preparing high-quality foods for patients, staff, special events, and visitors, ensuring that every meal meets the strict regulatory and quality standards of the healthcare environment. The Cook/Baker contributes directly to the patient experience by providing nutritious, safe, and visually appealing meals that support patient recovery and wellbeing. This position requires adherence to established food safety practices and procedures as mandated by various regulatory agencies, including federal, state, and HFAP guidelines. Responsibilities include careful food labeling and dating, meeting production schedules, and using kitchen equipment such as combo-ovens, slicers, steamers, and mixers properly. Maintaining sanitation and food handling best practices is critical to ensuring food safety and quality in this role.

Working as a Cook/Baker in this hospital setting requires not only culinary skills but also an understanding of the importance of nutrition and food safety in healthcare. Ideal candidates for this role will have experience in institutional cooking, familiarity with food service operations, and certifications such as ServSafe food handler certification. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • two years institutional cooking preferred
  • one year food service and/or cooking preferred
  • food handler certification - ServSafe required in Illinois
  • food handler certification - ServSafe preferred in Indiana

  • Label and date food products according to established procedures
  • meet schedules and time requirements for food preparation

  • follow production sheets to ensure correct quantities are made and available to all service areas
  • follow sanitation guidelines of federal, state, and HFAP regulatory agencies
