Job Description

Franciscan Health Indianapolis Campus, located at 8111 S Emerson Ave in Indianapolis, Indiana, is part of Franciscan Health, one of the largest Catholic health care systems in the Midwest. This healthcare organization is deeply committed to delivering exceptional patient care and promoting overall health and wellness throughout the communities served. With 12 ministries and numerous access points across Indiana and Illinois, Franciscan Health stands out for its innovative, compassionate, and excellent approach to healthcare. The organization places a strong emphasis on hiring dedicated coworkers who embody their mission of providing compassionate, comprehensive care to every patient and community they serve.

The role of Cook/Baker at Franciscan Health Indianapolis Campus is integral to maintaining the high standards expected in a healthcare environment. This position is responsible for preparing high-quality foods that cater not only to the nutritional needs of patients but also to the staff, visitors, and special events hosted at the facility. The role requires strict adherence to standard practices and procedures consistent with regulatory agency requirements, ensuring food safety and quality at all times.

As a Cook/Baker, the individual must effectively label and date food products to meet procedural standards, manage food preparation within scheduled time requirements, and practice safe food handling techniques at all times. The role also involves ensuring food products meet rigorous quality standards concerning both taste and appearance, thus contributing to overall patient satisfaction and well-being. The Cook/Baker is responsible for the proper usage of various kitchen equipment, including combo-ovens, slicers, steamers, and mixers, making technical proficiency a key aspect of the job.

Following production sheets accurately to prepare correct quantities of food that are distributed across different service areas is another critical duty. Equally important is maintaining compliance with sanitation guidelines set by federal, state, and healthcare facility accreditation organizations such as HFAP. This ensures that all food preparation environments are clean, safe, and conducive to healthy food production.

The Cook/Baker position is ideal for candidates with prior experience in institutional cooking or food service roles and who hold relevant food handler certifications—ServSafe certification is required in Illinois and preferred in Indiana. Although a high school diploma or GED is preferred, hands-on experience and certifications demonstrating knowledge of food safety and preparation are paramount. This position may occasionally require travel but typically very rare or none.

Working at Franciscan Health Indianapolis Campus offers individuals an opportunity to be part of a respected healthcare system that not only values technical skills and experience but also places a high importance on compassion and community service. Eligible employees can take advantage of comprehensive benefit offerings that support their health, wellness, and professional growth.
