The role of Cook/Baker at Franciscan Health Lafayette East Campus is an essential position within the food service department, focused on preparing high-quality foods for patients, staff, special events, and visitors. This position requires adherence to established standard practices and procedures that comply with regulatory agency requirements, ensuring that all food products meet safety and quality standards. The Cook/Baker is responsible for labeling and dating food products accurately, meeting production schedules, and practicing safe food handling techniques. This role also involves operating and maintaining kitchen equipment such as combo ovens, slicers, steamers, and mixers, which are crucial for efficient food preparation.

The Cook/Baker must follow production sheets meticulously to ensure correct quantities of food are prepared and made available to all service areas, thereby supporting smooth operations within the healthcare facility. Moreover, the role demands strict compliance with sanitation guidelines set forth by federal, state, and HFAP regulatory agencies to maintain a safe and hygienic kitchen environment.

This is a full-time position offering flexible hours ranging from 5 am to 7:30 pm, including weekends and holiday rotations, providing ample opportunity for work-life balance. It is an excellent role for individuals with a background in institutional cooking and food service, preferably with food handler certification such as ServSafe. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • 2 years institutional cooking experience preferred
  • 1 year food service and/or cooking experience preferred
  • Food Handler Certification - ServSafe required in Illinois
  • Food Handler Certification - ServSafe preferred in Indiana
