The Cook/Baker role at Franciscan Health Indianapolis Campus is pivotal to maintaining the food service quality that supports both the health and well-being of patients, staff, visitors, and special events attendees. This position ensures adherence to regulated standards by preparing high-quality foods in compliance with federal, state, and HFAP (Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program) guidelines. As a Cook/Baker, one has the opportunity to contribute directly to the overall patient experience by delivering nutritious, appealing meals and appropriately handling food safety procedures. This role requires a strong understanding of food handling, safety practices, and the efficient use of kitchen equipment such as combo-ovens, slicers, steamers, and mixers.

In addition to food preparation, this role emphasizes meeting production schedules, labeling and dating food items accurately, and following kitchen sanitation protocols. Each food product prepared must meet established quality benchmarks in terms of both taste and appearance, supporting the holistic healing environment Franciscan Health aims to provide. The role also involves following precise production sheet instructions to guarantee proper quantities of food are made available to all service areas, supporting a seamless food service operation throughout the healthcare facility.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • minimum 2 years experience in institutional cooking preferred
  • minimum 1 year experience in food service and/or cooking preferred
  • current food handler certification - servsafe required in Illinois
  • food handler certification - servsafe preferred in Indiana
