The Cook - Nutrition Services position at PeaceHealth is a full-time role, classified as 1.00 FTE with variable shifts to meet the demands of hospital food service operations. The salary range for this role is between $21.59 and $32.39 per hour, with hiring rates influenced by education, experience, and other factors. This position plays a critical part in supporting hospital patients, staff, volunteers, and visitors by preparing nutritious meals following strict safety standards. The cook is responsible for adhering to HACCP guidelines to ensure safe food handling. This role requires preparing and cooking food according to exact recipes and production standards, while also considering customer or patient counts.
The essential duties involve following recipes accurately, handling both hot and cold food preparation, maintaining proper food handling techniques, sanitizing workstations according to health and safety standards, organizing food production schedules, and maintaining detailed records to comply with regulatory and departmental policies. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed to support department operations.
This position is based at United General Medical Center, where cooks may be required to process all diet orders, including tube feedings, collaborate with dietitians to build patient menus according to nutritional requirements, and visit patients to ensure that meals are accurate and delivered promptly. The role also requires the use of computer charting methods for effective communication regarding individual patient dietary needs.
Working conditions involve continuous movement around the kitchen area with frequent lifting, bending, and occasional heavy lifting up to 50 pounds. The work environment includes exposure to noisy settings, heated surfaces, and wet conditions. Mental and visual acuity is required within normal limits, and strong communication skills are essential.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma preferred or equivalent
- minimum of 2 years experience as a cook in a hospital or full-service kitchen
- valid food handlers card for Washington
- ability to work well with others
- proficiency in MS Office applications
- knowledge of proper food handling and sanitation
- ability to lift frequently up to 22 lbs and occasionally up to 50 lbs
- ability to work in noisy environments and near heated surfaces
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma preferred or equivalent
- minimum of 2 years experience as a cook in a hospital or full-service kitchen
- combination of experience and formal culinary training considered
- required food handlers card - Washington
- professional culinary institute certificate preferred
- knowledge and understanding of proper food handling and sanitation
- ability to work well with others
- proficient in MS Office applications
