The role of the Cook at Riverside Health System involves the preparation and delivery of high-quality meal services to patients, residents, guests, and customers. This position is pivotal in ensuring that all food items, whether hot or cold, meet stringent safety, sanitation, and nutritional standards while providing an enjoyable dining experience that exceeds expectations. The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of food safety regulations, sanitation practices, portion control, and quality assurance. As a Cook, you will play a crucial role in contributing to positive patient and customer outcomes by preparing meals according to specific therapeutic and allergy guidelines, thereby supporting individual dietary needs as ordered by attending physicians.

The Cook will also demonstrate accountability in ensuring timely and accurate meal service, effective communication with team members, and customer service excellence. Experience in both patient and non-patient food service settings such as healthcare kitchens or high-volume restaurants is preferred, enhancing the candidate's ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
In addition to culinary skills and knowledge, successful candidates will showcase positive interpersonal skills, reliability, and a commitment to safety for both coworkers and customers. Preparation of special request items, proficiency in weighing and measuring ingredients, and competency in various kitchen tasks such as slicing, chopping, salad and sandwich preparation, and grill cook duties are integral parts of the daily workflow. The Cook is also responsible for training on and compliance with certifications including Allergen Awareness, Food Handlers Card, or Food Protection Manager, as required by the state of Virginia.
