The Food Service Worker role at Children's is pivotal in supporting the nutritional needs of patients and staff by preparing food items according to standardized recipes while adhering to rigorous food safety and quality standards. This position plays an essential role in the daily operations of the cafeteria and patient food service, ensuring that meals meet the highest standards of taste, nutrition, and safety. The role entails active participation in quality improvement initiatives, which include involvement in taste panels and test trays, aiming to enhance the culinary offerings continuously.
Financial management aspects such as careful monitoring of food quantities, inventory usage, portion control, and recipe compliance are also part of the responsibilities, ensuring cost-effective operations without compromising quality. The Food Service Worker contributes to customer satisfaction by engaging in planning and implementing menu specials and changes, tailoring offerings to meet patient and customer preferences. Regular attendance and the ability to perform physical tasks as required in the role are fundamental expectations.
This position is ideal for individuals with a minimum of six months of experience in food service or preparation who seek to work in a purposeful environment dedicated to children's well-being. The role offers a chance to apply knowledge of institutional cooking, food safety, and basic inventory principles while developing skills in recipe preparation, portion control, and compliance with operational protocols. The ability to creatively and safely use leftovers and to lead staff in the absence of supervisors are valued abilities that enhance team effectiveness. Additionally, adjusting food production based on historical data is an important competency to ensure optimal resource utilization.
