Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • twelve months experience cooking food in service operation
  • ability to lift minimum of 25 pounds
  • valid Texas driver license if required to drive a state vehicle within 90 days of hire
  • pass fingerprint criminal background check
  • pass pre-employment drug screen
  • pass registry checks including Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System, Nurse Aid, Medication Aide and Employee Misconduct
  • willingness to comply with immunization policy
  • must be at least 18 years old
  • males 18-25 must be registered with Selective Service
  • flexibility to work overtime and extended hours
  • ability to stand, bend, reach, and walk on hard floors for extended periods

Job Qualifications

  • Twelve months experience cooking food in service operation
  • knowledge of food preparation methods
  • knowledge of food storage standards and sanitation regulations
  • skills in operation and sanitizing of food service equipment
  • ability to prepare and serve food
  • ability to clean dining, serving, and food preparation areas
  • ability to maintain accurate records
  • ability to follow written and oral instructions
  • ability to complete basic math used in cooking
  • ability to lift minimum of 25 pounds
  • ability to work in hot and/or cold conditions
  • ability to work harmoniously with co-workers and patients
  • ability to speak and read English

Job Duties

  • Prepare and portion food for special diets following food service procedures
  • prepare scheduled snacks and supplements and maintain supply of snack items
  • distribute food safely and sanitary according to food service policies
  • assist in serving food for special diets
  • follow proper food handling in accordance with food service procedures, state, federal, and HACCP guidelines
  • receive delivery of food and supplies from vendors as required
  • follow sanitation and storage procedures for dishes and food service equipment
  • clean kitchen, stock room, food preparation areas, and satellite areas
  • adhere to safety procedures and practices
  • handle cash in hospital canteen safely and securely
  • maintain work areas in a sanitary and organized manner
  • complete required training per policy
  • actively participate in disaster response or COOP activation as assigned
