The State of New Hampshire, Department of Health and Human Services, operates New Hampshire Hospital located in Concord, NH. This institution is a vital part of the state's healthcare system, delivering essential mental health services to the community. New Hampshire Hospital is renowned for its commitment to providing comprehensive care in a supportive environment, emphasizing quality, safety, and continuous improvement in healthcare services. Within this framework, the Department of Health and Human Services aims to foster an inclusive and supportive workplace culture that values professionalism, teamwork, and dedication to public service. This commitment is reflected in its rigorous hiring standards and attractive compensation packages, including comprehensive benefits promoting work-life balance and career growth opportunities.

The role available is for a Cook II position within New Hampshire Hospital's food services department. This is a full-time, first-shift role that pays between $15.93 and $20.80 per hour. The Cook II position is an integral part of the hospital’s food service operations, responsible for preparing all food items according to pre-established menus, tally sheets, and specified recipes. The role entails not only cooking but also assembling trays for patient service, particularly managing the main entrée section of the tray line. This position emphasizes adherence to food safety standards and accurate recipe following, ensuring that meal preparation meets both quantity and quality requirements. The Cook II also takes on supervisory responsibilities in the absence of the Chef I, guiding junior cooks and food service workers, and helping maintain inventory accuracy through recording overs/unders. The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and is open to candidates with experience in commercial food service preparation, though additional formal education can substitute for experience. Completion of ServSafe certification within one year of employment is mandatory, underscoring the role’s focus on food safety and hygiene.

Beyond the core cooking duties, the Cook II is expected to engage in activities that uphold workplace safety and quality standards, participate in continuous improvement initiatives, and contribute positively to the department’s mission and customer service goals. The reward for these responsibilities is not just competitive pay but an extensive state employee benefits package, including health, dental, retirement plans, and wellness incentives. This position offers career advancement opportunities within the organization, emphasizing iterative growth and recognition based on performance and achievement. Working at New Hampshire Hospital means contributing to a meaningful cause, supporting patient care through high standards of food service, and growing professionally in a state-supported network dedicated to health and human services.
