The role of Cook II at Sonesta Denver (Downtown) reflects the company’s commitment to outstanding guest experiences and team collaboration. This non-exempt hourly position within the culinary department reports directly to the Executive Chef and offers a competitive pay range of $25.00 to $27.00 per hour. The Cook II is responsible for preparing and producing food orders that meet the established quality standards, ensuring every dish serves as a testament to Sonesta’s dedication to hospitality. This position demands a passion for food preparation and exceptional service, along with the maintenance of a safe and sanitary work environment. The Cook II works in a fast-paced setting primarily indoors but is expected to tolerate various physical demands such as exposure to extreme temperatures and the ability to lift and carry heavy items for extended periods.

This role requires flexibility to work varied shifts including days, nights, weekends, and holidays, with occasional long shifts of ten to twelve hours. The ideal candidate should possess relevant experience in a restaurant or hotel food preparation environment and hold at least a high school diploma or GED. The Cook II will perform multiple essential functions including producing food orders promptly and consistently, operating kitchen equipment safely, maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards, and adhering to company policies, including grooming and uniform standards.

In addition to the operational requirements, this role demands excellent organizational, prioritization, and time management skills, the ability to work independently under minimal supervision, strong math skills to measure and prepare recipes accurately, and exceptional communication skills with guests and colleagues. Job Requirements

  • Relevant experience in restaurant or hotel food preparation preferred
  • high school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred
  • ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • tolerance for extreme temperatures including freezers and loading dock areas
  • ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or 20 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or move objects
  • frequent bending, kneeling and reaching
  • ability to stand during entire shift
  • flexibility to work variable days including weekends and holidays
  • flexibility to work variable shifts including days, nights and overnights
  • willingness to work ten to twelve hour shifts sometimes required

Job Duties

  • Produce all food orders in a timely and consistent manner in accordance with established quality standards
  • test food to ensure quality and consistency of all meals served
  • operate all kitchen equipment in a safe and responsible manner
  • handle and store food items safely and keep work area clean and sanitized including all opening and closing duties
  • operate dish machine, clean and sanitize pots and pans, china, glassware, flatware, kitchen equipment and other utensils
  • store all clean pots and pans, china, glassware, flatware, kitchen equipment and other utensils to its proper storage location using care to minimize breakage
  • clean and sanitize the kitchen and food preparation areas
  • sweep and mop all kitchen floors and other assigned areas
  • collect and properly dispose of trash
  • service food for the Employee Cafeteria as specified by the Chef or Kitchen Supervisor
  • adhere to established safety and sanitation guidelines
  • adhere to uniform and grooming standards
  • perform other duties or projects as requested by management
