Job Description

Oro Valley Hospital, located at 1551 E Tangerine Road in Oro Valley, Arizona, is a well-established healthcare institution dedicated to providing exceptional medical services to the community it serves. We are currently seeking a part-time Cook I to join our Cafeteria department. This position offers two 8-hour shifts weekly during the day, perfect for individuals looking to balance work with other commitments. The Cook I plays a crucial role in preparing and cooking meals in line with established menus, recipes, and portion guidelines. Beyond food preparation, the role demands adherence to strict food safety and quality standards, maintaining a clean and sanitary kitchen environment, and contributing to the overall efficiency of food service operations.

The Cook I at Oro Valley Hospital will be responsible for ensuring that every meal prepared meets the hospital’s high standards for taste, presentation, and safety. This includes reviewing menus to secure necessary ingredients, preparing a variety of foods following specific recipes, and adjusting menus or recipes as needed in coordination with the Chef or Sous Chef. The role involves regular cleaning and sanitation duties, such as maintaining the cleanliness of cooking equipment and work areas, washing dishes, pots, and utensils, and verifying food temperatures throughout preparation and service to comply with health regulations.

Job Duties

  • Prepares and cooks food items according to established recipes, production sheets, and portion guidelines, ensuring quality and consistency
  • Reviews menus and secures necessary ingredients from storage, notifying appropriate personnel of shortages or substitutions
  • Cleans, seasons, and cooks a variety of foods while adhering to food safety standards and regulations
  • Measures, mixes, and cooks ingredients in accordance with recipes, tasting finished products to ensure quality
  • Maintains cleanliness and sanitation of cooking equipment and work areas, ensuring compliance with state and local health regulations
  • Records food temperatures during preparation and on the serving line to ensure safety and compliance with food handling standards
  • Participates in serving meals on the tray line, ensuring correct portions and temperatures for hot and cold foods
