Job Description

Mount Carmel is actively seeking a skilled Culinary Professional to join their team full-time, working rotating shifts with casual hours. This role is crucial within the hospital’s food service operations, which prioritize the safe production of high-quality meals to meet dietary and patient satisfaction standards. Culinary professionals at Mount Carmel are entrusted with preparing and cooking food products according to established recipes, guidelines, and systems while maintaining a clean, sanitized, and organized work environment. This position involves frequent communication with supervisors and team members to ensure efficient workflow and a supportive team atmosphere.

The culinary role involves preparation of batch, large quantity, and short order cooking, which demands efficiency, adherence to sanitation standards, and dedication to customer satisfaction. The culinary professional will review menus and special orders daily, coordinate production schedules, and ensure food is prepared in the correct quantities and delivered on time. The role emphasizes strict compliance with safety standards for food storage, handling, and preparation while also actively maintaining cleanliness using proper chemical and sanitation practices.

This position requires a high school graduate or equivalent with at least one year of experience in commercial food production or relevant hospital or large institutional kitchen environments. Food handlers' certification must be attained within six months of employment. Basic math skills and proficiency in English—both verbal and written—are important for success. The culinary professional must also demonstrate effective communication and customer service skills, contributing to a positive work environment and excellent patient and customer satisfaction.

Job Duties

  • Communicates and reviews menu and special orders daily with supervisors and team members in a professional and supportive manner to determine production schedule and food quantities
  • Follows standardized recipes for all food preparation
  • Reads production tally/menu and organizes workload to meet specified deadlines and quantity requirements
  • Maintains proper workflow during line cooking
  • Adheres to guidelines for storage, handling, and preparation of food and sanitation of work areas
  • Reports equipment problems to supervisor
  • Ensures food preparation areas are clean, sanitized, and orderly at all times using proper chemical and sanitation techniques
