Job Description
Marriott International is a globally recognized leader in the hospitality industry, known for its commitment to delivering exceptional guest experiences and fostering a diverse and inclusive work environment. The VEA Newport Beach A Marriott Resort & Spa located in Newport Beach, California, offers luxurious accommodations and exemplary service in one of the nation's most beautiful coastal destinations. This resort is dedicated to maintaining its reputation as a premier destination by investing in innovative culinary training and employee development programs, reflecting Marriott's broader commitment to career growth and education within its workforce.
Marriott’s partnership with the Rouxbe Cooking School exemplifies this dedication by providing culinary associates with robust online training opportunities. This program is designed to enhance culinary skills through a self-paced, engaging curriculum that can be immediately applied on the job, helping associates at all skill levels to advance their careers while maintaining the highest food quality standards.
The Culinary Associate position at VEA Newport Beach is a full-time, non-management role with a competitive pay rate of $31.15 per hour. This role involves preparing special meals and substitute items, regulating cooking equipment temperatures, and ensuring food quality from preparation to presentation. Associates in this position are responsible for maintaining food logs and communicating effectively with both the kitchen team and food and beverage service staff to ensure smooth operation during busy periods.
In addition to food preparation duties, the Culinary Associate supports daily kitchen functions by assisting in maintaining inventory, notifying management of excess food suitable for daily specials, and upholding stringent hygiene and safety standards. The role demands physical stamina for standing, walking, and handling kitchen tools and ingredients, as well as a keen eye for detail to meet the presentation and quality expectations synonymous with the Marriott brand.
Moreover, this position emphasizes teamwork and professional development. While it requires no prior supervisory experience, there is an encouragement to assist management in various human resource functions such as training, scheduling, and coaching colleagues. This collaborative approach fosters a positive work environment where employees are motivated to grow, learn, and contribute to elevating guest experiences.
VEA Newport Beach and Marriott International emphasize equal opportunity employment, promoting a workplace where diversity in culture, talent, and experiences are valued. Associates are part of a supportive network that ensures access to career opportunities without discrimination. Marriott also upholds a strong safety culture, expecting associates to complete necessary safety trainings and to report unsafe conditions to maintain a secure work environment.
Working at the JW Marriott brand, which is part of Marriott’s luxury portfolio that VEA Newport Beach aligns with, provides associates with unique opportunities in luxury hospitality. Employees benefit from an environment that champions personal well-being, career development, and a community spirit. The JW Treatment™ philosophy—that treating associates exceptionally is the key to delivering outstanding guest experiences—permeates every aspect of the workplace.
Joining the team at VEA Newport Beach A Marriott Resort & Spa means becoming part of a globally recognized brand committed to hospitality excellence, inclusivity, and career growth. Culinary associates are empowered with tools, training, and team support to excel in their roles and contribute meaningfully to the Marriott promise of "Wonderful Hospitality. Always." This position is ideal for those passionate about culinary arts, eager to grow professionally in a dynamic luxury resort setting, and dedicated to maintaining high-quality food service standards.
