The Cook I position at CurrentBurger is an entry-level to intermediate cooking role designed to prepare lunch and dinner according to guest orders while adhering to production requirements and maintaining quality standards. This role is crucial to the kitchen operation, ensuring consistent and high-quality food output while upholding safety and sanitation regulations. The Cook I is responsible for mastering fundamental culinary skills such as knife handling, various cooking techniques including sautéing, grilling, frying, roasting, and braising, and proper treatment of vegetables and cold foods. The position calls for preparation of food and pastry items following precise recipe cards, portion control, and presentation guidelines to guarantee customer satisfaction.

This role requires the cook to set up and maintain their station for different meal services—breakfast, lunch, and dinner—efficiently operate and clean kitchen equipment like deep fryers, broilers, stoves, steamers, mixers, and ovens, and manage food storage duties such as food container dating and rotation per company policies. The Cook I also participates in checking inventory levels, preparing necessary items for upcoming shifts, and ensuring that all perishables are stored at correct temperatures to prevent spoilage. The position demands the ability to work well under pressure, communicate effectively, and collaborate professionally with team members and supervisors.

Physical stamina is a key element of this job, with requirements to lift heavy items up to 70 pounds, stand for long periods, and maintain focus throughout high-demand service hours. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1-3 years of kitchen or hotel operations experience

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Understand basic knife skills and maintenance
  • learn the purpose of basic knife cuts
  • know basic cooking techniques including soups, sauté, grilling, frying, roasting, braising, poaching, and vegetable treatment
  • prepare consistent quality food and pastry items according to guest orders following recipe cards and production standards
  • complete station set-up for breakfast, lunch, and dinner service
  • effectively operate, maintain, and clean kitchen equipment such as deep fryers, broilers, stoves, steamers, food processors, mixers, slicers, ovens, steam tables, tilt kettles, waffle irons, and flat top grills
  • date and rotate food containers following policies and maintain proper temperature control of perishables
  • check inventory levels and prepare for shifts including freezer pulls and line set up
  • return unused food to storage areas properly covering and dating perishables
  • assist in prep work for the next shift
