The Food and Nutrition Department at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston Salem, NC, is currently seeking a full-time Food Service Worker to join our dedicated team. This role is essential in delivering quality nutrition and food services to patients, staff, and visitors, ensuring a positive and supportive environment through excellent customer service. Working 32 hours per week across various shifts between 6:00 am and 9:00 pm, including weekends and holidays, this position offers a competitive pay range of $19.80 to $29.70 per hour and is benefits eligible from day one.

As a Food Service Worker, you will be responsible for preparing and serving food according to established recipes and department guidelines, maintaining high quality and portion control, and adhering to sanitation standards to ensure safe food handling compliant with health department requirements. The role demands the setup and monitoring of food stations to guarantee product quality, strict compliance with safety and sanitation regulations, and the completion of essential training programs, including compliance, HIPAA, TJC/OSHA, and job-specific skills such as grilling and knife handling.

This role requires a strong commitment to team collaboration and performance improvement initiatives, including participation in meetings and activities that promote diversity. You will also be tasked with minimizing food waste, managing supplies, documenting leftovers, labeling and storing food efficiently, and following Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) guidelines to maintain food safety. The ability to operate kitchen equipment competently and the flexibility to adapt to changing kitchen environments and temperatures are also necessary. Effective communication skills are essential to interact with a diverse range of customers, patients, and staff, and a willingness to work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays, is required to meet the demands of this critical service role.

Job Duties

  • Provide excellent customer service ensuring positive interactions with customers patients and staff
  • Prepare food using recipes and departmental guidelines to maintain high quality and portion control
  • Maintain sanitation standards completing daily and weekly cleaning assignments and meeting health department requirements
  • Set up and monitor food stations ensuring product quality and adherence to recipes
  • Follow all safety and sanitation regulations to maintain a safe work environment
  • Complete required training including compliance HIPAA TJC/OSHA and job-specific skills like grilling and knife work
  • Support team efforts and performance improvement initiatives including attending meetings and promoting diversity
  • Minimize waste manage supplies and ensure proper use and storage of food and equipment
  • Plan daily tasks to ensure timely meal preparation and address adjustments with managers as needed
  • Document leftovers label and store food properly and follow HACCP guidelines for safety
