Kent County Juvenile Detention Center is a secure facility housing up to 98 residents, committed to providing a safe and structured environment for youth requiring supervision and care. The position available is for a part-time Cook I who will play a crucial role in preparing and serving meals to residents and staff within this secure juvenile facility. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing various meals in large quantities according to weekly menus provided by supervisors. A significant aspect of this role includes preparing special diets as prescribed, ensuring the nutritional requirements of all individuals are met safely and effectively. The Cook I will be responsible for meal preparation, serving, kitchen sanitation, and proper stock management, including cleaning kitchen equipment to maintain high hygiene standards. Importantly, this role does not involve any physical contact with residents, providing a safe working environment within the facility.
Working hours for this position typically run from 10am to 6pm, covering three shifts per week with work scheduled every other weekend. This part-time role requires candidates to obtain ServSafe certification within a nine-month probationary period to ensure food safety and handling standards are met. Job Requirements
- high school diploma or equivalent
- previous experience in food preparation or cooking
- ability to obtain servsafe certification within nine months
- ability to work part-time hours including weekends
- ability to follow safety and sanitation guidelines
