Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • minimum of 1 year experience in related cooking work
  • ability to work in a fast-paced institutional kitchen environment
  • physical ability to stand for long periods and perform kitchen duties
  • knowledge of food safety regulations
  • ability to follow instructions and maintain consistency
  • good organizational skills

Job Qualifications

  • minimum of 1 year experience in institutional or large-scale quantity cooking
  • knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards
  • ability to follow recipes and adjust quantities accurately
  • proficiency in operating kitchen equipment safely
  • strong attention to detail

Job Duties

  • Cook food in quantities according to menu and number of persons to be served
  • confer with other personnel to determine quantity and types of ingredients and number of portions
  • roast, fry, boil, broil and season meats, fish, poultry, vegetables and other foods
  • measure and mix ingredients according to recipes
  • determine type or amount of ingredient substitutions in recipes
  • evaluate food quality, quantity, appearance, temperature and taste
  • operate kitchen equipment such as cutlery, grinders and slicers
  • weigh portions for uniformity
  • store food at proper temperatures
  • sharpen cooking tools
  • clean and sterilize cooking equipment and work areas
  • place prepared food in carts for delivery
  • transport food from kitchen to serving area
