Job Requirements
- At least 18 years of age
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Valid Texas driver license or ability to obtain within 90 days if driving a state vehicle
- Ability to lift at least 25 pounds
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and reach for extended periods
- Willingness to work various shifts including evenings and overtime
- Pass fingerprint criminal background check
- Pre-employment drug screening
- Compliance with HHSC immunization policies
- Males aged 18-25 must be registered with Selective Service
- Ability to work in hot and cold conditions
- Ability to smell, taste, and see
- Eligible driving record as per agency policy
Job Qualifications
- Twelve months experience cooking food in a service operation
- Knowledge of food preparation methods and sanitation regulations
- Skills in operating and sanitizing food service equipment
- Ability to prepare and serve food according to special diet requirements
- Strong communication skills in English
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions
- Basic math skills related to food preparation
- Ability to work harmoniously with co-workers and patients
Job Duties
- Prepare, cook, portion, distribute, and serve food according to prescribed menus and therapeutic diet specifications
- Follow sanitation and safety procedures in food preparation and kitchen maintenance
- Maintain and clean food service equipment and work areas
- Assist with food delivery and inventory control
- Adhere to federal, state, and HACCP guidelines for food handling
- Participate in disaster response or continuity of operations (COOP) activities as required
- Complete necessary food service reports and documentation
