We are currently seeking an experienced Cook to join our team. This role is essential in supporting the dietary needs of our residents and staff by preparing nutritious and flavorful meals in a timely and sanitary manner. The successful candidate will follow planned menus and recipes while adhering to established guidelines and standards. The Cook will be responsible for preparing a variety of food items including desserts, pastries, breads, salads, and meats carved in the required portions. Attention to detail and a passion for food preparation are crucial, as the Cook will also cater to special dietary requirements and accommodate residents who need meals served in their rooms.

Job Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Must purchase and wear required uniform
  • Must be able to use equipment safely
  • Must be able to use supplies economically
  • Must attend in-service training and staff meetings as required
  • Demonstrates neat appearance and good personal hygiene
  • Must read, know, and follow personnel, department and facility policies

  • Experience in food preparation and cooking
  • Ability to follow recipes and dietary guidelines
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices

Job Duties

  • Follow planned menus
  • Prepare food items for resident and staff meals as well as special events
  • Plan cooking schedule to have food ready to serve on time
  • Prepare and cook food according to tested recipes and established guidelines
  • Prepare desserts, pastries, breads, and salads
  • Carve meats in portions required
  • Prepare food for special diets
  • Serve food timely and attractively in proper utensils
  • Serve food either hot or cold as required
  • Prepare and cover trays for patients not coming to dining room as needed
  • Take requests for extra servings of food or beverages
  • Clear and clean tables in dining rooms when needed
  • Wash, rinse and sanitize pots, pans and service ware according to established procedures and assist with other cleaning as needed or assigned
  • Keep stove, sinks, cabinets, tables and equipment cleaned and sanitized
  • Maintain a clean department at all times, including sweeping, mopping, garbage removal, equipment cleaning
  • Utilize the most sanitary methods to handle, prepare, and serve food
  • Assist with other dietary requirements as assigned, including paperwork
  • Assume responsibility for the dietary department and staff in absence of Dietary Director, including staffing and assignments if replacement staff cannot be found
